The original function of halogen gas is to offer longer life time and more brightness by creating ¡°halogen cycle¡± to return tungsten molecule evaporated from the filament when turn on the lamp by combining tungsten halide within the lamps.

What does mean halogen cycle?
When lamp turned on and its glass wall temperature reached around 200~250 degree Centigrade, tungsten molecule which consist of filament start to be evaporated and combined tungsten-halide by joining with halogen element in the gas. This tungsten-halide does not cling to the glass wall and begins to operate convection and go back to the region of the filament. At the filament where the temperature exceeds 2500 degree Centigrade, the tungsten halide dissociates, the tungsten is deposited on the filament. This cycle thus keeps the bulb wall clean by preventing deposition of tungsten and results in much higher life of lamp and much higher lumen maintenance.
